Government Dismisses Case Against Hall-Taylor Construction
MONTGOMERY, Ala., Nov. 23, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Hall-Taylor Construction Company of Tuscaloosa announced today that the federal government has dismissed a forfeiture lawsuit involving cash and property belonging to the Company. The dismissal comes on the heels of a jury's acquittal of one of the Company's owners, Roger Taylor, on federal bribery charges.
"The Company is obviously extremely happy to have this over and done," said Doug Jones of the Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker, LLC firm that represented the Company. "The Company feels completely vindicated of all allegations involving, Roy Johnson, the former Chancellor of the two-year college system and looks forward to delivery of the same quality work they've done for years," he said.
The forfeiture case was filed in April, 2008, following Roy Johnson's guilty plea to federal bribery charges. Although the lawsuit has been on hold until the criminal investigation was complete, over $700,000 of the Company's cash was frozen at the request of the Government. Liens were also placed on company vehicles and real property. With the dismissal of the forfeiture case all liens have been removed and cash released. "It's a new day for a re-invigorated Hall-Taylor Construction," Jones said.
Curtis Hall, co-owner and president of Hall-Taylor Construction, responded to the news. "We value our customers and clients who stood by us during this difficult ordeal, and the public now clearly understands the allegations were untrue. We look forward to continuing the tradition of offering high quality, competitively-priced construction services with the utmost professionalism."
Taylor attorney, Mark White, of White Arnold & Dowd, stated, "From the first time we met Roger and his family we were totally convinced of his innocence. This has been an ordeal for Roger and his family and on this Thanksgiving we will give special thanks for Roger and his company being totally vindicated."
