Government Services Group, Inc. Helps City of Marathon Earn Invitation for 2015 STAR Communities Program
MARATHON, Fla., Sept. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Government Services Group, Inc. (GSG) was part of the City of Marathon team that received an invitation to participate in the Sustainability Tools for Assessing & Rating Communities (STAR Communities) Fall 2015 Leadership Program.
The STAR Communities provides tools and support services to city and county leaders with the goal of recognizing and improving sustainable communities, a healthy environment, a strong economy and well-being for residents. The program helps communities gain a deeper understanding of their strengths and needs with respect to developing a sustainable community. The STAR Communities program provides a springboard for civic engagement, encouraging cross-agency coordination, integrating budgeting and performance measures and encouraging economic development.
The City of Marathon was among seven municipalities chosen nationwide to participate in the Fall 2015 Leadership Program. The rating system for certification includes seven goal areas and 44 sustainability objectives. The City of Marathon is working towards the sustainability certification through surveys and other initiatives. GSG will continue to assist the City and their staff throughout the process.
