Event to Induct Dr. Nick Holonyak, Nikola Tesla and Dr. James Tsui into Hall of Fame
DAYTON, Ohio, Oct. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Engineering and Science Hall of Fame (ESHF), an international non-profit organization honoring people who have made outstanding contributions to engineering and science which have improved the quality of life for humankind, announced Dr. Nick Holonyak, Nikola Tesla and Dr. James Tsui will be inducted into the ESHF at a banquet on Nov. 3 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dayton. All three engineers have made marvelous contributions to the advancement of mankind's use of electricity and electronics.
Nick Holonyak, Ph.D., Electrical Engineering – invented the first practical and useful light emitting diode (LED), today an industry standard in the field of illumination. Dr. Holonyak will be represented by his fellow scientist, Dr. Russell Dupuis, Georgia Tech University, who worked closely Dr. Holonyak during the development of the LED technology.
Nikola Tesla – the creator of the modern system to generate, transmit and utilize alternating current (AC). Mr. Tesla will be represented by his grand-nephew, William Terbo, who directs the Tesla Memorial Society in New Jersey.
Dr. James Tsui, Ph.D., Electronic Engineering –the world's leading authority on electronic warfare (EW) receiver technology and developed the first receiving software for the global positioning system (GPS) widely used today.
McHenry will serve as master of ceremonies, Gov. Taft will provide opening remarks and Dr. Ricklin will provide the closing remarks.
