Governor Corbett Issues Flag Order in Honor of National Peace Officers Memorial Day
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 15, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Corbett today ordered all U.S. and Pennsylvania flags at commonwealth facilities statewide to be flown at half-staff today, Tuesday, May 15, to recognize National Peace Officers Memorial Day.
The U.S. Congress created Peace Officers Memorial Day to honor the memory of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
Pennsylvania officers killed in the line of duty during 2011 included Deputy Sheriff Kyle D. Pagerly of the Berks County Sheriff's Department; Police Officer Robert A. Lasso of Freemansburg Borough Police Department; Police Officer Derek Kotecki of City of Lower Burrell Police Department; and Police Officer John David Dryer of East Washington Borough Police Department.
Private residences and businesses are also encouraged to fly flags at half-staff on this date. The governor's order follows a similar order issued by the White House.
