Governor George Pataki Addresses National Debt Crisis at New Hampshire Event
Releases TV Ad: Barack Obama's Plan? "Raise taxes. And cut spending—somewhere, someday"
NEW YORK, May 24, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former New York Governor George Pataki told a New Hampshire audience Tuesday that President Obama "has the worst fiscal record of any president in the history of our country." Pataki also announced television advertisements in New Hampshire in the run-up to the June 13 primary debate to focus public attention on the national debt.
"Every one of you owes $46,000 to the federal government," Governor Pataki told participants in an ECON 101 Town Hall Meeting sponsored by New England College in Henniker, NH. "It's an absolute crime against our children. [The federal government is] stealing from our future. This year, under President Obama, the government will incur a $1.65 trillion deficit ... We have a $14.3 trillion debt. What do we have to show for it? Do we have brand-new highways, airports? No, we have President Obama borrowing to reward special interest groups today, and it has to stop."
"In four years, he'll have incurred more debt than any other president in history," he said. "And we'll have more debt than any other country in the history of the world. It's unsustainable; it's got to stop."
Governor Pataki continued, "The IMF said about a month ago that China's going to pass the United States in five years. I don't want to see China pass the United States in 55 years."
"[President Obama] has the worst fiscal record of any president in the history of our country," he said.
Governor Pataki expressed disappointment that Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels decided not to run for president. "Any Republican serious about being president needs to have a strong plan to deal with the debt. I thought Governor Daniels would've really added to the conversation," Pataki said.
Citing former House Speaker Newt Gingrich's recent comments on Congressman Paul Ryan's House budget plan, as well as former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney's lukewarm comments about entitlement reform reported in Politico, Pataki said, "It's not just the President. Whether it's Newt, Mitt, or someone else, every Republican who wants to be president has to have a serious plan to solve the debt."
Pataki, who is honorary chair of the anti-debt group, No American Debt, announced that the organization will run issue ads on television in New Hampshire beginning Wednesday, May 25, to educate the public on the issue in advance of the state's Republican primary debate on June 13.

Both parties got us here.
Reckless spending. Record debt.
When Barack Obama's bipartisan Commission chartered a path—he ignored it.
When Republicans offered a plan—he attacked it.
His proposal?
Raise taxes. And cut spending—somewhere, someday.
That's no plan.
We must do better.
