This worldwide global health and healing event will begin in New Zealand at 10:00 a.m. and spread time zone by time zone around the globe as it has since 2002. Locally, Shaolin Temple Grand Master Shi DeRu, along with other Shaolin Institute instructors and students, will demonstrate and teach the ancient Chinese healing art of Tai Chi (pronounced "tie-chee") and Tai Gong.
People of all ages, fitness levels and abilities are invited to enjoy the great energy of Qi Gong ("chee-gung") and Tai Gong breathing mind-body exercises and to learn basic Tai Chi movements under Grand Master Shi DeRu and his highly trained instructors.
These ancient arts not only provide significant health benefits, but have the added advantage of enduing the participant with a "great feeling of happy Qi."Tai Gong, a combination of Tai Chi and Qi Gong, consists of simple, slow, fluid movements that, along with freely conscious deep breathing, create a calmness of mind that communicates and frees the body, mind, and spirit.
More than 20 years ago, Grandmaster Shi DeRu, also known as Shawn Liu, founder and headmaster of Shaolin Institute, brought Tai Gong and traditional Shaolin Tai Chi to the U.S., opening schools and training students throughout the country.
He has devoted his life to helping people and is doing so through generous community outreach, such as World Tai Chi Day, Asian cultural celebrations, and brilliant martial arts performances by his highly acclaimed Shaolin Institute Performance Team. Over the years, DeRu has developed Tai Gong, his amalgamation of Tai Chi and Qi Gong, designed to redirect the body's natural positive healing energy, or "qi," to transform the body's realization of health and well-being.
This dynamic positive energy penetrates and permeates through the body broadcasting natural healing qi waves to the world to help millions of others in a positive and healing way, thus producing an environment of health, peace, and compassion around the world.
Cutting edge research conducted by Harvard University researchers confirmed what the ancient Chinese Masters have known for over 3,000 years - that Tai Chi has a significant, beneficial health impact on the whole body, particularly on the heart, muscles, bones, nerves, immune system, and the mind. Moreover, these mind/body health benefits can be realized by performing Tai Chi just a few minutes every day. Tai Chi appears to aid in treating or preventing many of today's most crippling health conditions, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. Combined with traditional treatment, Tai Chi helps treat anxiety, depression, back pain, arthritis, low bone density, breast cancer, Parkinson's disease, and sleep disorders and reduces rehabilitation time following a stroke.
Grand Master Shi DeRu has helped many students overcome life-threatening conditions that did not respond well to conventional therapies. He credits this success to the "mindset" his students developed with the training, practice, and mastery of these ancient therapeutic techniques.
