SEATTLE, June 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Green Builder Media just made summer savings easier for consumers to tackle when its CEO Sara Gutterman was tapped to talk about eco-smart habits on "The Daily Buzz," a nationally syndicated morning show featuring news, weather and entertainment.

In the segment, which aired Thursday, June 6, 2013, Gutterman broke the green tips into three areas where consumers can make a positive impact on their wallets—and their health.
Take energy: Easy fixes include reducing the AC load by closing curtains during the heat of the day, running appliances at night when it's cooler, turning up the thermostat a few degrees, upgrading to high-performance windows and doors, and adding insulation.
Summer water bills can break the bank, but with a little forethought, they can be kept in check. Gutterman suggests running appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines when fully loaded and using low-flow fixtures and toilets. But for the biggest return on investment, she urges homeowners to watch their landscape water use. "Up to 80 percent of water used in a home is on landscaping," she points out. "Switch to drought-tolerant plants, get rid of turf that requires lots of watering, and use harvested rain water."
When it comes to indoor air quality, nothing beats a high-performance ventilation fan. "If you want a healthy home, it's important to exhaust pollutants, toxins, and moisture," Gutterman explains. "To improve your indoor air quality, install fans such as Panasonic's WhisperGreen LED ventilation fan. It is an ENERGY STAR® rated fan/light that provides spot or whole house ventilation for cleaner indoor air quality, with added LED illumination. And it is quiet, so you can't hear it."
"With homes being built tighter today to conserve energy, it's more important than ever to have proper mechanical ventilation to exhaust excess humidity, stale air, allergens and pollutants that can get trapped inside the home," says Patricia Monks, Product Manager, Panasonic Eco Solutions North America. "Not only does it help ensure the bathroom stays clean and dry, while preserving the structural integrity, but it also helps improve the entire home's indoor air quality for a more comfortable and safe living environment."
