Greentown Labs Names Georgina Campbell Flatter as Incoming Chief Executive Officer

In partnership with its Board of Directors, the nonprofit and climate leader will set the vision for the climatetech incubator's next chapter

SOMERVILLE, Mass. and HOUSTON, Feb. 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- On the heels of a successful $4 million funding round and introduction of its new Board of Directors, Greentown Labs today announced Georgina Campbell Flatter as the organization's incoming Chief Executive Officer. Flatter brings an exceptional blend of nonprofit executive leadership, entrepreneurial experience in the climate and energy industries dating back to Greentown's inception, and a strong technical background. She has a proven track record of developing and scaling impactful global programs at the intersection of climate and energy innovation, and entrepreneurship and social impact. Flatter will transition to Greentown from her role as Co-founder and Executive Director of TomorrowNow.org, a global nonprofit pioneering innovative approaches to connect next-generation weather and climate technologies with vulnerable communities on the frontlines of climate change.

Flatter spun TomorrowNow out of tomorrow.io, a Boston-based pioneer in AI-powered weather intelligence and satellite technology. Under her leadership, the organization secured millions in climate philanthropy from major partners including the Gates Foundation, enabling it to deliver cutting-edge climate solutions to five million African farmers weekly.

Flatter will collaborate closely with Kevin Dutt, Greentown's Interim CEO to ensure a seamless leadership transition. She will also continue to serve on Greentown's Board of Directors.

Prior to founding TomorrowNow.org, Flatter spent a decade at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she was a senior lecturer and led global initiatives at the intersection of technology and social impact. She spearheaded and influenced innovation programs for organizations such as the MIT Legatum Center, the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship, the MIT Climate & Energy Prize, MIT REAP, XPRIZE Foundation, the World Bank, and the U.S. Department of Energy. Her hands-on research experience includes work at the Langer Lab and Sun Catalytix, an MIT - ARPA-E funded spin-out, focused on energy storage solutions inspired by natural photosynthesis. An Acumen Rockefeller Global Food Systems Fellow, Flatter is dedicated to driving transformational change at the nexus of energy, climate, and community resilience.

Flatter was deeply engaged with Greentown when it was born out of the MIT ecosystem in 2011. Since then, it has grown to be the largest climatetech startup incubator in North America and will soon welcome its 600th member company.

Flatter earned a Master of Engineering in Materials Science from the University of Oxford and an SM in Technology and Policy from MIT. A mother of three, she is passionate about making technology matter for prosperity and the planet, empowering entrepreneurs, and advancing public understanding of science. Her work spans energy, climate, women, and youth, and she remains active in her local community.

Greentown will host its first EnergyBar evening networking event of 2025 at its Boston incubator on Feb. 6 and its annual CERAWeek Transition on Tap networking event at its Houston incubator on March 13. Flatter will share remarks at both events.
