NEW YORK, Jan. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Stephen R. Burke, President & CEO, and Arnold R. Schmeidler, Founder & Chairman of A. R. Schmeidler & Co., Inc., the New York City investment management firm, have announced that Gregory S. Markel, an experienced and respected investment management professional, has joined the firm as a Portfolio Manager and Research Analyst.

Mr. Markel has 24 years of investment experience with a few highly-respected asset managers in New York and Massachusetts. Prior to joining A.R. Schmeidler, he was a Senior Investment Analyst at Iridian Asset Management. He also previously managed the FrontPoint Stadia Opportunity Fund, a $110 million global long/short hedge fund. Mr. Markel worked for State Street Research & Management in Boston for eight years, where he co-managed the SSRM Investment Trust, a $2.5 billion Growth and Income mutual fund. He previously served as a research analyst for seven years at Fidelity Investments. Mr. Markel started his career as a financial analyst in mergers and acquisitions at Morgan Stanley. He received a B.A. in Economics and Psychology from Brown University and received an M.B.A. from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
