Groundbreaking Announcements as National Epilepsy Awareness Month Begins

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, in honor of National Epilepsy Awareness month, Smart Monitor made several announcements that support the needs of people with epilepsy.

Smart Monitor, announced a new and enhanced water resistant lightweight model of the SmartWatch^® with enhanced battery life. The company will be donating one of its newly released SmartWatch units to the Danny Did Foundation, which is dedicated to advancing awareness in epilepsy and sudden unexpected death in epilepsy. "Monitoring devices like SmartWatch can help to enable early intervention for individuals who face epilepsy," said Tom Stanton, Executive Director of the Danny Did Foundation, "Alerting a caregiver so they are present is a critical advantage for anyone who is having a seizure. Acuma Health, a division of Smart Monitor, recently announced its collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Medicine EpiWatch study, which utilizes patient generated data from the Apple Watch and Apple ResearchKit. Information gathered as part of the study will enable participants to better track and understand their seizures and possible triggers while providing physicians and researchers access to real-time data critical for the management of chronic conditions such as epilepsy. Smart Monitor has conducted epilepsy research studies with Boston Children's Hospital, New York University Langone medical center, UCSF Medical Center and Stanford School of Medicine.

Smart Monitor also announced that its iOS compatible SmartWatch will be available by the end of 2015. This will enable Android and Apple users to benefit from the SmartWatch's ability to detect abnormal motion, instantly alert caregivers and loved ones, summon help via a GPS tracker and provide scheduled medication reminders.
