Grupo Aeromexico Transported One Million 131 Thousand Passengers in September

MEXICO CITY, Oct. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Grupo Aeromexico S.A.B de C.V. ("Aeromexico") (BMV: AEROMEX), the largest intercontinental airline in Mexico, reports its operating statistics for September.

In September 2011, Grupo Aeromexico transported one million 131 thousand passengers; the highest number for the month of September in the Company's history. This represents a 5% increase compared to the prior year; a time when Grupo Aeromexico registered an abrupt increase in passengers transported as the direct result of consolidation that had occurred in the Mexican aviation industry. International passenger traffic grew 28% in September 2011, while domestic passenger traffic decreased 2% year over year. During the first nine months of the year, Grupo Aeromexico transported a total of 10 million 565 thousand passengers; a 27% increase over the number registered for the same period in 2010.

Demand in September, measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPKs), grew 12% year over year. Capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASKs), registered a 19% increase. It is important to note that during the month of September, Grupo Aeromexico took advantage of low seasonality to perform maintenance tasks on five narrowbody airplanes; standard maintenance is three airplanes per month. This therefore reduced the Company's potential capacity for the month. The load factor for September was 75.5%. The cumulative load factor for the first three quarters of the year was 78.6%.

"ASKs" Available Seat Kilometers represent the number of available seats multiplied by the distance flown. This metric is an indicator of the airline's capacity. It equals one seat offered for one kilometer, whether or not the seat is used.
"Load Factor" equals the number of passengers transported as a percentage of the number of seats offered. It is a measure of the airline's capacity utilization. This metric takes into account the total passengers transported and total seats available in itinerary flights.
"Passengers" refers to the total number of passengers transported by the airline.
