"Gut Health, Microbiota, and Probiotics Throughout the Lifespan: Metabolic and Brain Function" at Harvard Medical School Division of Nutrition
BOSTON, Sept. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The world's top researchers will explore the latest scientific evidence related to gut microbiota and probiotics and their importance to health across the lifespan in the fields of metabolic function and brain function. The symposium, organized by Allan Walker, MD, Director of the Division of Nutrition at Harvard Medical School will be held on Thursday, September 15, 8:30 AM – 6:30 PM and Friday, September 16, 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM
This new frontier of science will be covered for the first time from the perspective of the "Gut Health, Microbiota and Probiotics Throughout the Lifespan." The symposium will focus on new research in four key areas that show a lot of promise: Pregnancy, the Neonatal Period, the Adult Period, and Older Adults. There will be a specific focus on metabolic and brain function.
The program objectives are to: 1) explore basic and translational research related to how the gut microbiota functions, develops, and changes throughout the lifespan,
2) discuss how gut microbial alterations affect metabolic function across the lifespan, and
3) explore the connection between the gut microbiota and brain function.

WHAT: The presentations will address the interaction between the microbiome and metabolic diseases such as obesity, heart disease and diabetes, and in brain diseases such as autism spectrum disorders, Parkinson's disease and depression. Accordingly this symposium will provide attendees with a state-of-the-art discussion of what is known about the influence of the microbiome on cardiometabolic and brain health, and generate a roadmap to guide the direction of future research needed to fill current critical knowledge gaps. |
