Haddon Heights, New Jersey, Mayor Scott M. Alexander Announces $1.8 Million in Municipal Property Taxes Savings
HADDON HEIGHTS, N.J., July 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In addition to a 6% decrease in the 2011 Municipal property tax levy, Mayor Scott Alexander announced $1.8 million in Municipal Property Tax savings over the last 4 years, representing an 11% savings to the tax payers of Haddon Heights.
The municipal tax levy increased an average of 8.6% per year from 2004 to 2007 but only increased an average of .43% per year from 2008 to 2011. If the Municipal levy had been allowed to continue on its unjustifiable path of 8.6% per year increases for tax years 2008 to 2011, tax payers would have paid $1.8 million more in property taxes. Overall, tax payers saved $5.3 million in blended property tax levies over the same time frame.
"Our taxing entities listened to their residents and made changes from the ground up, and we have a State governing body led by Governor Chris Christie that is driving tax reform from the top down. Our employees deserve a thank you for working on ways to keep costs low and making our operations more efficient. This $1.8 million in savings wouldn't have been possible without all these efforts," said Mayor Scott Alexander.
