Halek Energy LLC Receives Halek Caddo Oil Field Designation From Texas Railroad Commission

DALLAS, Nov. 22, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Halek Energy LLC has received Texas Railroad Commission approval to designate a productive oil field in Jack County, Texas as Halek (Caddo).

Texas Railroad Commission approval of the new oil field designation was made Nov. 15, 2010.

Halek Energy, an independent oil and gas exploration company based in Southlake, Texas, also announced that it has successfully completed a sand frac of a recently completed horizontal well in Halek (Caddo) that was underperforming (Knox 10H, Jack County, Texas).

Production from the Halek Energy well in Halek (Caddo) was increased to approximately 85 barrels of oil a day and 250 mcf of natural gas per day.

Based partially on the success of the Halek (Caddo) Knox 10H sand frac, Halek Energy will continue to develop the Knox lease in Halek (Caddo), which is adjacent to the Johnson lease in Jack County, Texas, said Jason Halek, CEO of Halek Energy.

A frac is a procedure used to improve production from oil and gas wells by forcing pressure into rock formations, creating fractures to allow better flow of the hydrocarbons to the wellbore.

Frac sand is sand that is pumped into the well during the fracturing operation. Since the sand is carried along with the fluid into the fracture, it will remain in the fracture when the pressure is removed, keeping the fracture propped open and allowing an ideal route by which the hydrocarbons can flow to the wellbore. The frac fluids are designed to flow well and carry the sand during pumping, but transform into a gel when pumping stops. This holds the sand in place until the fracture closes and traps the sand between the rock layers.
