FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Hang w/, the live-streaming social media innovator and subsidiary of MEDL Mobile Holdings ("MEDL") (OTCQB: MEDL), announced that Apple has approved its new technology allowing users to "tip" each other in micro payments on the Hang w/ platform. The tipping mechanism is being rolled out for both iOS and Android users today.
The Hang w/ app connects users through interactive live-streaming video, allowing anyone with an iPhone, iPad, Android device or desktop computer to broadcast live to a potential audience of millions of viewers around the globe.
The new tipping mechanism within the application allows for a user to tip publicly and allow other viewers to see - or to tip privately so that only the broadcaster knows who gave the tip. Tips can be made during a live broadcast in increments of one coin, two coins, ten coins, forty-two coins, or one hundred coins. Coins are valued at approximately $0.10 each, and the recipient keeps the largest percentage. Recipients can then redeem their tips for cash, or use the coins within the Hang w/ platform to purchase Digital Ticketed content, or even re-tip another user.
"We are using technology to re-create one of the oldest relationships between performers and their fans," said Dave Swartz, Hang w/ President and CCO. "Buskers would perform on sidewalks with a hat, or a guitar case or even a 5-gallon bucket in front of them - singing, dancing, even preaching live to earn their living. Thanks to technology, those performers can now go live in front of people all over the world - without even leaving their own living room."
Tipping is the third monetization option for users of Hang w/. The platform allows users to monetize their broadcasts via advertising and share in the revenue from ads that are displayed before and after their broadcasts. The platform also recently announced the ability for users to create their own mobile live Pay-Per-View events using the platform's "Digital Ticket" system.
