Uptown collaborative space teams with city to launch an entrepreneurial ecosystem
NEW YORK, June 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- MicroOffice, one of the first providers of NYC coworking spaces, recently announced the launch of HarlemGarage, a coworking business incubator built through a collaboration with Mayor Bloomberg and the NYCEDC. Located at 318 West 118th Street, MicroOffice's newest location will be located in the heart of West Harlem. In addition to being a community event space, HarlemGarage seeks to unite local startups, small businesses, and other innovators under one roof.
HarlemGarage will be established in a 5,000 square foot space developed by Artimus Construction and will accommodate a total of 150 members. Coworking memberships will be available to freelancers, startups, and small businesses seeking a professional coworking environment. Membership levels will vary from "Daily Parking Passes" to monthly "Valet" mainstays. Valet members are able to claim a desk as their own, enjoy extended access to the facility, and receive business mail. Additionally, many will opt for the "Flex Parking Pass," which affords a specific number of days to use the space during a given month. All members have access of the lounge area, kitchen space, and WiFi. Prices will range from the daily $15 to monthly $300.
The Harlem community has seen a spike in the number of startups and small businesses starting. "Harlem has such a strong and historically entrepreneurial spirit. HarlemGarage will be a space where today's local businesses can develop and collaborate," said Harlem resident Ryan Young, Community Coordinator at HarlemGarage.
The space will provide membership discounts to minority and woman-owned businesses as well as annual contests for discounted desk time. Members will benefit from business enrichment workshops, networking opportunities, and a discount program offering deals to popular local establishments. "HarlemGarage is about the advancement of Harlem small businesses through the exchange of expertise," says Young.
