Hauppauge Launches New Model WinTV-HVR-2255

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., July 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Hauppauge Computer Works, Inc., the leading developer and manufacturer TV receivers for PCs, announced today the availability of the new WinTV-HVR-2255. This half height, PCI Express, TV tuner has dual NTSC/ATSC/QAM receivers built-in and is a performance enhancement to their popular dual tuner TV receiver, the WinTV-HVR-2250.

The WinTV-HVR-2255 is designed for both end users and system builders who are looking for a dual tuner TV receiver, 1/2 height internal TV tuner board with support for all of the standard TV formats used in North America: ATSC over-the-air HD TV, clear QAM digital cable TV, NTSC analog TV and baseband video. With the dual built-in hardware MPEG-2 encoders, the WinTV-HVR-2255 will convert NTSC and baseband video into high quality MPEG-2 video. And the WinTV-HVR-2255 includes a new single channel FM radio receiver.

The WinTV-HVR-2255 has several improvements over the previous model. It includes the latest generation ATSC demodulator, with improved sensitivity for receiving over-the-air TV broadcasts. For those who live in a fringe area, the improved sensitivity will allow you to receive more over-the-air ATSC TV channels, with fewer digital TV artifacts.

Hauppauge has released a new version of the WinTV v7 application for use with the WinTV-HVR-2255. It provides "watch one channel while recording another", plus offers "picture-in-picture" using both TV tuners. In addition, the WinTV-HVR-2255 can be used with Windows Media Center as a dual tuner, multi-format TV receiver.

For commercial users, Kernel Labs (e-mail: [email protected]) will be providing Linux support.

Pricing
The WinTV-HVR-2255 with the WinTV v7 application and a Windows Media Center remote control kit will have a list price of $129. The WinTV-HVR-2255 board only with drivers for Windows 8 and 8.1, Windows 7 and Windows XP will sell for $109.
