Hawken Graduate Makes Commitment of $1.2 Million to Establish Endowed Chair
GATES MILLS, Ohio, Nov. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hawken School announces that 1959 Hawken School graduate Henri "Hank" Pell Junod, Jr. is designating more than $1.2 million of his estate to the School's endowment for the purpose of a named faculty chair in the history department. This is the first endowed faculty chair established in the school's 96-year history and serves to advance the national reputation of Hawken School and maintain the quality of the school's faculty.
The chair will be named The Henri Pell Junod, Jr. '59 Endowed Faculty Chair for History in honor of history teacher Hamilton "Bud" Eames who served Hawken 1937-1947 and 1954-1967. The planned gift will provide for faculty salary, professional development and intensive course study and research.
Hank Junod is a recipient of Hawken's Carl N. Holmes Award for service and is a member of the Hawken School Visiting Committee of the Board of Trustees. He attended Hawken in grades one through nine and returned to Hawken as an apprentice teacher early in his career. He generously established the Junod Library Fund at Hawken to support the purchase of resources at the school's Lyndhurst and Gates Mills libraries.
Junod resides in Shaker Heights and also maintains residences in Michigan and Florida. In the Cleveland community he serves on the boards of the Lake View Cemetery and Foundation, Western Reserve Historical Society, Leadership Councils for Orthopaedics and Cardiology at University Hospitals, Central School of Practical Nursing, and Signature Health, Inc. In Michigan, he is involved at the Roscommon County Community Foundation and Mercy Hospital Grayling.
