GREENSBORO, N.C., March 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Hill, Chesson & Woody (HCW) completed the second course of its Eleven in '11 series with Capital Associated Industries (CAI) this week. "I thought it was very informative to learn about the different parts, how they coordinate with group health plans and also how it works with retiree coverage," said Natalie Prudente, a human resources generalist with The Education Center, Inc. in Greensboro.
The presentation covered such topics as: the basics of Medicare Parts A, B, C and D; eligibility and costs; Medicare Secondary Payer rules; and how the social system interacts with employer responsibilities. Prudente said that she probably would not have received the information if the course had not been offered.
Presented by HCW Health and Welfare Consultant Rob Krieg, JD, CEBS, the 3-hour HRCI-credited course included specific information on costs associated with Medicare and which plan is responsible for payments to healthcare professionals in the event employees or retirees are over age 65 and still on a group medical plan.
"We are looking at changing our health benefits for our employees," said Mary Beth Pichon, human resources director for Aging, Disability & Transit Services of Rockingham County in Reidsville.
"Currently we don't offer retiree medical coverage," she continued. "A lot of our employees are over 65, so this directly relates to how I might offer insurance to them and how I might want to structure a plan."
"Medicare is a tough topic to understand," said Todd Yates, managing partner at Hill, Chesson & Woody.
"As employers look at their aging work population, it makes sense that they'd be knowledgeable on Medicare," he said. "We know from our client experiences that employees are seeking clarification more and more from their employers, no matter what the healthcare need is. We're happy to provide these opportunities to help them."
The next Eleven in '11 topic, "Reality Check: What's Driving Healthcare Costs and How it Affects Your Business," takes place twice on March 15 at CAI in Raleigh, followed by two sessions on March 29 in Greensboro.
