ANNAPOLIS, Md., Nov. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- HeadFirst Sports Injury and Concussion Care, a service of Righttime Medical Care, has recently launched a six-week support group for people with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI).

The support group is designed for patients with mTBI lasting six months or longer and was borne out of numerous requests from both patients and medical health providers seeking a resource for people experiencing the unique symptoms of mTBI.

"Many clinicians feel that individuals dealing with the effects of mTBI would benefit from the collective support of group counseling," says HeadFirst Program Director Tony Doran, Psy.D. "We explore new ways to cope with stress and the changes in daily living as well as provide skills to aid and manage their recovery."

The members meet each Wednesday evening in Crofton, Md. There are currently only a handful of brain injury support groups currently meeting in the region, and Dr. Doran sees the need for more.

"Most people experiencing mTBI make a complete or near-complete recovery if they're given the proper guidance and tools," says Dr. Doran. "HeadFirst is providing a huge benefit in providing many of the emotional and practical support for these patients to heal and move on with their lives."

HeadFirst Sports Injury and Concussion Care provides post-injury medical evaluation for patients of all ages who have suffered head injuries and mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Trained in the evaluation and management of mTBI, the HeadFirst medical team works with a consortium of specialists to ensure patients receive optimal care.
