Health Essentials Positioned To Provide Coordinated Care For Frail Elderly
New Chief Executive Officer, Chief Medical Officer and President combine successful strategies to coordinate care for elderly population
SANTA ANA, Calif., July 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Health Essentials, a physician-driven organization that specializes in providing coordinated care for medically complex and frail-elderly patients, has named Michael Radu as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Tyler Jung, MD as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Steve Larkin as President of Care Delivery.
In September 2012, Health Essentials received a growth capital investment from SV Life Sciences and Bessemer Venture Partners to leverage its expansion and enhance the coordination of care for the most medically complex and at-risk patients. Subsequently, its highest priority was to recruit leaders who have developed successful strategies in coordinated care for the vulnerable elderly.
"Mike Radu has all of the qualities we were seeking in a CEO," said Alan Hoops, Executive Chairman. "With 25 years of experience in healthcare, I'm confident that he'll lead our family of companies to achieve the benchmarks we've set for success."
Radu has held several senior level executive positions with major health plans, public affairs organizations and medical groups; most notably, he spent the past 12 years at United Healthcare as COO of Collaborative Care for Optum, where he participated in turning it into the largest physician care delivery organization in the country.
"I'm reenergized by Health Essentials' unique care model and the opportunity to help these chronically-ill individuals at the most vulnerable time in their lives," noted Radu. "With the rapid changes in healthcare, I'm looking forward to being part of an organization that will make big improvements to caring for the frail elderly population."
In addition to Radu's appointment, Tyler Jung, MD will serve as CMO of Health Essentials to spearhead the managed care clinical strategy and oversee GeriNet Medical Associates, a Health Essentials managed medical group.
"Dr. Jung is an expert in caring for high-risk patients and implementing post-acute care programs," said Hoops. "He shares with us a commitment to coordinated care, patient satisfaction and clinical excellence. Together, we'll work to achieve the 'Triple Aim of Healthcare' set by the Institute of Healthcare Performance: better health for the population, better care for individuals and lower cost through improvement."
Dr. Jung has over 15 years of leadership experience at DaVita HealthCare Partners, one of the nation's largest operators of medical groups and physician networks. He received his Medical Degree from Tulane Medical School and completed his residency and fellowship at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. He is triple-board-certified in internal medicine, critical care and pulmonary medicine.
Steve Larkin has also been appointed to President of Care Delivery to ensure quality and consistency of care by Health Essentials' three Medicare-certified hospice services: Gerinet Healthcare, Hospice Touch, Inc. and Health Essentials Hospice.
Prior to joining Health Essentials, Larkin served as the CEO of Hospice of Arizona and has been active at both the State and National level to help shape legislation and public policy to improve the care of chronically-ill patients.
Health Essentials is a Nevada Limited Liability Company organized and existing as HealthEssentials, LLC. It specializes in caring for the most frail and vulnerable patients across California, Arizona, and Nevada. The Health Essentials family of companies includes a medical group (GeriNet Medical Associates), Medicare-certified hospice services (Gerinet Healthcare, Hospice Touch, Inc. and HealthEssentials Hospice) a pharmacy (Comfort Rx), and a durable medical equipment (DME) supplier (Health Essentials DME).
