HealthCode and PCSI Recognize People with Disabilities Contributions in the Workforce
''No Barriers'' Virtual Activity Challenge Promotes Health and Wellness While Marking National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October
AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthCode and Professional Contract Services, Inc. are encouraging people of all ages to celebrate the women and men with disabilities in the American workforce through the "No Barriers'' virtual activity challenge in October.
October marks the 80th anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month and HealthCode and PCSI are rolling out the No Barriers challenge, a companion to October's Marathon in a Month, to raise awareness of the benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle while recognizing the contributions of people with disabilities in the workforce.
National Disability Employment Awareness Month began in 1945 as a weeklong national observance of the contributions of people with physical disabilities. In 1988, Congress designated the commemoration as NDEAM, which then evolved to acknowledge the importance of increasing opportunities for people with disabilities, including those with mental health conditions and other nonobvious disabilities, in the workforce.
"PCSI is a nationwide nonprofit whose mission is to enhance the lives of people with disabilities. Since we do that primarily through employment, we see firsthand every day the community we serve overcome obstacles and shatter barriers in the workplace so they can live their best lives," said Tony Cucolo, president and CEO of Professional Contract Services, Inc., and a retired U.S. Army Major General. "And as a former Soldier, I know the great benefits of daily physical activity. The No Barriers challenge brings all that together and reminds us that everyone has the ability to excel - no matter what the obstacles. Whether you walk, run, roll, bike or stretch, take the challenge and knock down your own barriers with us during October."
Steve Amos, CEO and founder of HealthCode, said: "We are encouraging everyone to recognize the contributions by the hard-working women and men with disabilities in our workforce throughout National Disability Employment Awareness Month while raising awareness of the benefits of an active lifestyle. While we hope all our participants will be taking steps to healthier living, we hope everyone has a little fun at the same time."
Participating in No Barriers is easy. Participants sign up on No Barriers registration page and log miles or minutes on the HealthCode online activity tracker. Throughout the month, the program leaderboard is updated with miles achieved globally.
When registering, participants have the option to set up a FundDash fundraiser and establish a fundraising goal and share it with friends and colleagues by email or via social media.
Participants can join as an individual or as part of an organization. Employers and other organizations can register at https://healthcode.org/organizations.
More than 197,000 registrants have participated in HealthCode's virtual activity events since 2014, achieving 20 million miles and nearly 325 million minutes of physical activity and burning 2.3 billion calories.
