High Level Panel Debate - 'Personalised Medicine - Hype or Hope', at 2nd European Colorectal Cancer Patient Conference (CCPC 2013).
LONDON and BARCELONA, Spain, June 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Entitled 'Your life, your responsibility,' CCPC 2013 believes that by sharing experiences and calling for change, patients have the strongest voice of all in the field of health and prevention.
Colorectal cancer (also known as bowel cancer) is the second most common malignancy in Europe. More than 413,000 people are diagnosed with colorectal cancer every year, resulting in more than 212,000 deaths. Yet colorectal cancer is preventable in many cases and highly treatable if diagnosed early.
CCPC 2013 also calls for cancer therapies to be provided to all colorectal cancer patients throughout Europe. Some patients currently have to pay for cancer therapies which are provided free in other European countries.
Jola Gore-Booth, EuropaColon Founder and CEO says:
"CCPC 2013 believes it is scandalous that patients in some European countries struggle to pay for drugs to treat their cancer which patients in other countries receive free of charge. CCPC 2013 aims to empower patients to take responsibility for their disease and to become an even stronger voice in what is an extremely challenging landscape."
This year's conference includes a panel & audience debate entitled, 'The Controversies of Personalised Medicine', moderated by former MEP John Bowis.
The aim of the debate is to encourage active discussion on this highly controversial subject. Personalised treatment promises a solution to cancer care, but the question is, will we get there and if so, when? Is it hype or is it hope? The panel will include a patient, an oncologist, a payer/commissioner and a representative from the pharmaceutical industry.
