LOS ANGELES, Nov. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Earlier this month, a settlement was announced in the amount of what will ultimately be more than $1.4 Billion on behalf of patients who have received hip replacement implants manufactured by Stryker Orthopedic.
In 2012, Stryker Orthopedic voluntarily pulled their hip replacement systems, Rejuvenate and ABGII, off the market. The metal-on-metal components used, caused very serious and catastrophic injuries in patients, including blood poisoning and serious muscle and tissue death.
"Throughout the litigation, there were many discoveries made; including the fact that Stryker knew long before the recall of July 2012 that their Rejuvenate and ABGII hip replacement systems were defective. We know now that Stryker had internal discussions regarding the dangers and chose to put their profits before the health and wellbeing of patients said Ramin Raiszadeh, Attorney at TORKLAW who is representing patients Nationwide in the litigation.
If you or a loved one received a hip replacement between 2008 – 2012, you may be eligible for the settlement which has a deadline of December 14, 2014 for patients to register.
It is estimated that there were over 20,000 of the defective hip replacements implanted in patients in the US.
"Unfortunately, there is a close to 100% certainty that if a patient has a Stryker Rejuvenate or Stryker ABGII hip replacement implant, that they are going to have to have it replaced. This means that patients will most likely have problems down the line, if they aren't having any yet. We are encouraging people to contact us immediately so our staff can help identify their device and determine if they qualify for the settlement, said Raiszadeh.
Many factors play into the determination of how the $1.4 Billion settlement will be allocated. It is critical that patients who have had a Stryker hip replacement implant between 2008 – 2012 immediately contact us for a free, no obligation evaluation of your case. Call now 888.222.8286
