Hirai Farms, National Frozen Foods and Annie's Fun Team Up to Donate Over 300,000 Lbs. of Sweet Corn to Food Banks
COLUMBIA BASIN, Wash., Nov. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hirai Farms, National Frozen Foods Corporation (NFFC) and Annie's Fun recently teamed up as part of the Vertically Integrated Partnership to donate 217,000 pounds of sweet corn from the Moses Lake/Quincy area to Northwest Harvest warehouses in Spokane, Yakima and Kent, Washington. Additionally, Annie's Fun, Hirai Farms and NFFC donated another 94,000 lbs. of sweet corn to other food banks in Washington State, including Food Lifeline and Second Harvest.
The Vertically Integrated Partnership is a coalition of farmers, food processors, food distributors and food service companies, etc. that are working together to help stop hunger in the Pacific Northwest. Since 2008, the Vertically Integrated Partnership has donated over 3 million pounds of food (i.e., potatoes, sweet corn, onions, beans, canned foods, etc.) to food banks throughout the Pacific Northwest, including Northwest Harvest, Second Harvest, Food Lifeline, the Bellingham Food Bank, the White Center Food Bank, the Quincy Community Food Bank, the Moses Lake Food Bank, and the Wenatchee Food Bank, etc. The Vertically Integrated Partnership (VIP) has a goal of donating another 2 million pounds of food in the next 12 to 16 months.
