Hispanic Heritage Month
Helpful Tools for Spanish Speakers from USA.gov and GobiernoUSA.gov
WASHINGTON, Sept. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- It's Hispanic Heritage Month -- the time of year to recognize and celebrate the contributions made by Hispanic and Latino Americans in the United States. For the 50.5 million Hispanics and Latinos who call the US home, USA.gov has many resources in Spanish to answer questions and get information about government programs:
- GobiernoUSA.gov is the Spanish language sister site to USA.gov--the official web portal of the US government. Here, Spanish speakers have easy access to government information, services, original articles, daily blog posts and social media channels. GobiernoUSA.gov is not a direct translation of USA.gov, but rather a social and cultural adaptation designed to address the unique information needs of Spanish speakers.
- Guía del Consumidor is a free Spanish language guide to handling consumer problems and avoiding scams and frauds. Specifically tailored to the Hispanic community, it features sections on immigration, consumer contacts in Spanish, and scams targeted at the Hispanic population. It's available both in print and online and also includes a popular sample complaint letter that people can fill in and use to resolve their own consumer problems.
- 1-800-FED-INFO is the telephone number to call with questions about federal agencies, programs, and services. Speak with an agent in Spanish, or chat online with a representative weekdays, 8am-8pm Eastern.
- Publications.USA.gov has more than 200 free and low cost government consumer publications available in Spanish in print and online. The wide range of subjects includes health, family, money and education.
While celebrating this country's strong and proud Hispanic heritage this month, remember the trusted government resources from GobiernoUSA.gov to help Spanish speakers and the Latino community.
