Historic Mindful Leadership Summit Set For Washington, DC November 14-16
Leaders Convene for First U.S. Mindful Leadership Conference to Explore Mindfulness Innovations in Government, Business, Academia, Nonprofits and Communities.
WASHINGTON, Nov. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 500 leaders from business, nonprofits, government and academia converge on Artisphere in Rosslyn, VA on November 14-16 for the Mindful Leadership Summit, a groundbreaking event exploring the growing movement towards mindful leadership. Google, the NFL champion Seattle Seahawks and Harvard Business School are well-known organizations embracing mindfulness and mindful leadership. This Summit is set to go deeper into this emerging path of leadership excellence across all sectors, and even cities, as it introduces "Wichita in Mind" from America's heartland, Wichita, Kansas.
"Wichita in Mind" is a collaborative effort with the Mindful Nation Foundation, an organization inspired by Summit keynote speaker Congressman Tim Ryan. Understanding that a mindful nation starts with mindful communities, this local initiative targets five critical groups in need— veterans, children, teachers, leaders, and healthcare workers – and provides evidence-based mindfulness programs and an ambassador network to support these groups.
"The feedback from these programs has been incredible," states Mindful Nation Foundation president and Summit speaker Krishna Pendyala. "In less than six months, we have trained over 250 childhood educators and teachers, and veterans impacted with PTSD. These veterans will soon be prepared to go on 'search and rescue' missions to find and support fellow veterans dealing with similar challenges."
As Veterans Day approaches, Ryan reaffirms his commitment to supporting veterans. "Mindfulness is about finding ways to slow down and pay attention to the present moment, which improves performance and reduces stress. Bringing mindfulness and integrative health practices to veterans must be top priority."
In addition to Ryan and Pendyala, the Summit features more than 25 speakers, including "Emotional Intelligence" author Dan Goleman, Nature Conservancy President Mark Tercek, clothing designer/entrepreneur Eileen Fisher, Insight Meditation Community of Washington founder Tara Brach, Motley Fool CEO Tom Gardner, and Janice Marturano, executive director of the Institute for Mindful Leadership and recent World Economic Forum speaker.
"A mindful leader embodies leadership presence by cultivating focus, clarity, creativity, and compassion in the service of others," says Marturano. "Through mindfulness training and practice, employees transform their leadership abilities and their environments into places of increased innovation, greater focus, improved productivity and widespread compassion."
