Historic Tax Revolt Shakes Country! Throngs relive American History at The Whiskey Rebellion Festival

The Whiskey Rebellion Festival is back for another year on July 11-13th! Historic Background: The Whiskey Rebellion Festival celebrates the history of the Rebellion as the first challenge of authority to the newly formed federal government. So serious was the insurrection that in 1794 President George Washington dispatched 13,000 federal troops to Washington, PA (named in his honor) to quell the tax revolt stirred by rebellious frontier farmers protesting a tax on locally made whiskey.
