Holcim (US) Inc. Experts to Present at 2011 International Concrete Sustainability Conference
WALTHAM, Mass., Aug. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Holcim (US) Inc. (www.holcim.us), one of the nation's leading manufacturers of cement and mineral components, will participate at the 2011 International Concrete Sustainability Conference. The conference takes place in Boston, Massachusetts from August 9 – 11, 2011.
Holcim's Todd Laker and Brooke Smartz will present "The Use of Performance Based Portland Based Limestone Cements in Colorado and Utah: Laboratory Durability Testing and Case Studies." Mr. Laker and Ms. Smartz will discuss durability testing conducted by an independent laboratory of two portland-limestone cements produced in Colorado and Utah. Additionally, case studies based on the experience of the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), and three commercially constructed buildings will be used to illustrate that these cements are viable for large scale use on a variety of construction projects throughout the United States. The presentation will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 1:30 PM.
Presenting on Tuesday, August 9th at 3:30 PM is Tim Cost. Mr. Cost's presentation and published paper, "Concrete Sustainability versus Constructability - Closing the Gap" explores how early-age performance of sustainable concrete mixtures with greater byproduct materials content can be enhanced. The paper and presentation introduce simple screening tests for optimization of mix designs for acceptable setting and early strength performance, so that use of these sustainable materials can be maximized.
Also presenting at the conference are Barry Descheneaux and Steve Morrical. Messrs.Descheneaux and Morrical will present "The Evaluation and Selection of Natural Supplementary Cementitious Materials for Blended Cements," and offer insight on methodologies for determining the potential that a pozzolan may have for use in blended cement. This presentation will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 10:30 AM.
The sixth annual Concrete Sustainability Conference will provide learning and networking opportunities on the latest advances, technical knowledge, continuing research, tools and solutions for sustainable concrete manufacturing and construction.
