WASHINGTON, Oct. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Just as signing the Mac Bride Principles became, in effect, a moral imperative for American companies doing business in Northern Ireland so, too, will signing the Holy Land Principles— a corporate code of conduct for American companies doing business in Israel-Palestine.
That is the firm belief of the Capitol Hill-based Holy Land Principles, Inc., which launched the Principles on International Human Rights Day, December 10, 2012.
To date, there have been three Holy Land Principles resolutions filed and moved: Corning, GE, and Intel.
A Cisco resolution has been filed, and will be moved at Cisco's Annual Meeting on November 19 at 10 AM (PST) in San Jose, California.
Fr. Sean Mc Manus, President, Holy Land Principles, Inc. said: "The Holy Land Principles are supportive of ESG factors. The Holy Land Principles are a practical and particularized application of the Ruggie Principles. The Holy Land Principles are a call to action to investors to act on an issue NEVER BEFORE brought before American companies doing business in Palestine-Israel: fair employment. And the Holy Land Principles are now a moral imperative for Cisco— and an existential requirement like the Mac Bride Principles."
Fr. Mc Manus continued: "Cisco is a very important company full of good and able people. Cisco's investors are good and fair people. The Holy Land Principles are pro-Jewish, pro-Palestinian and pro-company. Now that this issue has been put on the table— the elephant in the room at last being acknowledged, so to speak— who can reasonably oppose the idea? It's an idea whose time has come and which cannot be set aside by the right, the left or the center."
Barbara Flaherty, Executive Vice President, Holy Land Principles, Inc. said:
"The Holy Land Principles are intrinsically valid and inherently fair. By endorsing the Holy Land Principles, Cisco will show that it is effectively implementing a program of fair employment in its operations in the Holy Land. We appeal to all Cisco investors to vote for our Resolution."
