DETROIT, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Additional Honorary Hosts have been named for the opening event of The Dennis Archer Collection at the Burton Historical Collection of the Detroit Public Library. Mayor Dave Bing, Congressman John Conyers, Jr., Wayne County Executive Robert A. Ficano, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and United States Senator Debbie Stabenow will join Honorary Hosts from 14 Detroit cultural institutions, as well as corporate sponsors, to celebrate the opening of this exhibit on Thursday, April 29, 2010. The event will take place at the Detroit Public Library (5201 Woodward, north of Warren in Detroit's Cultural Center).
The event will begin with a pre-reception for the sponsors from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. The general reception runs from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. In addition to the Honorary Hosts, this exciting yet educational event will be attended by Mr. Archer and his wife, Trudy, and representatives from 13 other Detroit-based cultural entities, such as the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The event is designed to bring a collective awareness to the arts in Detroit, and to demonstrate the Archers' commitment to sustaining Detroit's rich cultural legacy.
"The response from the sponsors of this event has been outstanding," Mr. Archer said. "This demonstrates how committed our community is to making sure our cultural institutions stay viable, today and in the future. With the support of our sponsors and those who attend the event, we will be able to make a significant difference to the 14 Detroit-based cultural arts organizations who have been impacted negatively by Michigan's economy."
Mr. Archer added, "It is my hope that the exhibit itself will cause those who view it to remember the positive years of growth the city of Detroit experienced, and – like me – will be energized and excited about the future of Detroit, our state and our region."
The general reception is open to the public. Tickets are $250, and proceeds will help underwrite a number of programs at the 14 Detroit-based cultural institutions represented at the event. For more information, please call The Friends office at 313-481-1359 or email [email protected]. No tickets will be available at the door.
