Hoosier Academies Celebrates 2012 Graduating Class
Online students plan to attend top universities across the state
INDIANAPOLIS, June 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Hoosier Academies, a tuition-free public charter school authorized by Ball State University, honored its graduates from its Indianapolis campus during a 2012 graduation ceremony that took place this past Saturday, June 9 at Indianapolis Marion County Public Library. Hoosier Academies Indianapolis is a blended learning program where students enjoy face-to-face instruction with state-certified teachers for part of the week, while the remainder of weekly instruction is facilitated through dynamic online lessons.
Among the graduates are three recipients of the Governor Mitch Daniel Scholarship, awarded each year to students in Indiana who complete their high school diploma in their Junior Year. Those students will receive scholarships from the State of Indiana to cover their first year of college academic expenses. Other graduates include a winner of a full academic scholarship to Indiana-Wesleyan University, one with a partial scholarship to Purdue University, and a student going on to pursue a career as a professional pair figure skater.
"We're so proud of each of our graduates and they are truly a diverse group of young people," said Tora Townsend, Director of Secondary Academics. "Hoosier Academies is more than just a top-notch school; we're a community. Our teachers work to motivate students academically while building up their character and commitment to excellence in all that they do. During the graduation ceremony we recognized not only the achievements of the students and teachers, but also the encouragement and support of their families, who directly contributed to crafting such an amazing program."
