Horatio Alger Association Officially Opens 2014 Scholarship Programs for High School Seniors Nationwide
The Association anticipates awarding more than $8 million in college funding to outstanding scholars throughout the United States
WASHINGTON, Aug. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc., a nonprofit educational organization honoring the achievements of outstanding individuals and encouraging youth to pursue their dreams through higher education, today announced the opening of its 2014 scholarship programs. The Association expects to award more than $8 million in undergraduate and graduate scholarships in 2014 through one of the largest privately-funded, need-based financial aid programs in the country. To date, more than $100 million has been invested in students, enabling them to prevail in pursuit of the American dream.
Administering one of the nation's largest collegiate scholarship programs, Horatio Alger Association supports high school students who demonstrate integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity and hardships while exhibiting exceptional character and a commitment to higher education. Through its application process, which will close on October 25, 2013, approximately 1,000 high school students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico will be granted scholarships, ranging from $5,000 to $20,000.

Those who wish to apply for Horatio Alger Scholarships must meet a series of requirements related to education, character, and family income. Once selected, Horatio Alger Scholars are provided with numerous resources to ensure a successful college career including financial aid guidance for the selection of and preparation for college, access to guidance and crisis counselors, mentoring programs, tools to interact with other scholars and manage the disbursement of funds as well as access to educational staff for assistance with their scholarships.
