Horizon Media Sends its Employees Back to School
Agency Educates Future Intrapreneurs at NYU School of Professional Studies Through a Course That Provides the Knowledge and Skill Sets to Think Innovatively About Their Everyday Professional Roles and Beyond
NEW YORK, Oct. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Horizon Media, the largest and fastest growing privately held media services agency in the world, is proud to announce that it will send its entrepreneurial employees to study intrapreneurship at the NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS), a global leader in higher education. The NYUSPS course, commencing this month, will equip selected Horizon employees with a start-up mind-set to apply to their everyday roles within the company. The course is a component of Horizon Media's internal pilot program, UpStartU, which encourages employee intrapreneurship.
"Millennials want more out of their jobs than just a pay check—they're seeking opportunities that will enrich their lives and careers beyond their day-to-day responsibilities in the office," said Sarah Bachman, Vice President of Mobile Strategy at Horizon Media, and architect of the intrapreneurship employee education initiative. "The employees selected to take part in the course will gain an invaluable set of intrapreneurial skills that can be applied inside and outside of our organization. The resulting opportunities present a win for our employees, clients, and the agency as a whole."
The initiative aims to teach employees to think differently and how to pivot when posed with challenges in their careers and intrapreneurial pursuits. The course has enrolled employees across all levels of experience—from account coordinators and assistants, to the agency's senior leaders. A panel of the company's senior leadership has selected up to 16 of the agency's best and brightest team members, following a rigorous interview process. Students will receive a digital badge from NYUSPS at the successful conclusion of the course, which can be displayed through their social media presence and on their digital resume.
"It's important for organizations to challenge their employees," said Taylor Valentine, chief invention officer at Horizon Media. "By promoting different ways of thinking in order to realize new ideas, we can help our people to thrive, invent, and maximize their potential."
The three-month course will be held onsite at the NYU School of Professional Studies in New York City. For more than eight decades, the School has provided comprehensive, professionally oriented educational experiences to students from the New York metropolitan area, across the country, and around the globe. The NYU School of Professional Studies provides high-caliber program curriculum that is professionally relevant and that is taught by top industry experts.
Employees from the company's Los Angeles office will be invited to participate in the course via video conference technology. At the conclusion of the program, students will prepare a business plan and present their ideas to Horizon Media President, Founder, and Chief Executive Officer, Bill Koenigsberg.
Horizon Media plans to implement its UpStartU program as an internal continuing education opportunity for its employees.
