FAIRFAX, Va., May 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Horne Engineering Services, LLC, a subsidiary of Horne International, Inc. (OTCBB: HNIN.ob), today announced that it has joined the Nexant, Inc. team under a Master Services Agreement to provide environmental consulting services under the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Africa Infrastructure Program project. Horne's services include review of environmental impact assessments (EIA) for power projects throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. EIAs reviewed to date include wind energy power transmission in Kenya, as well as various projects in Ghana and Nigeria based on West Africa Gas Pipeline (WAGP) natural gas powered turbines – gas that was once flared instead of collected and redistributed. New work is pending on small renewable energy schemes in Nigeria and several additional projects are in the pipeline.
"The USAID Africa Infrastructure Program and other USAID infrastructure programs Worldwide are key to the US geopolitical strategy for stabilization of vulnerable societies, represent an encouraging reemergence of the 'hearts and minds' approach, and contribute greatly to reducing conflict in developing countries," said Darryl K. Horne, President and Chairman of Horne International. "With Nexant, Horne is validating its focus and execution on the emphasis of Engineering, Energy and Environment. Our company stands ready to demonstrate our international footprint, core competency and service capabilities on more projects and contracts with the fine people at Nexant."
Horne will also soon start work for Nexant on the recently awarded US Trade Development Agency (USTDA) Technical Assistance (TA) project for the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). The purpose of the project is to develop a regulatory framework designed to provide investment incentives to independent power producers (IPPs) utilizing renewable energy resources (Project). Horne has also signed on to the Nexant team for future international contract work.
