SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Hortonworks, Inc.® (NASDAQ: HDP) today announced its commitment to the White House's Precision Medicine Initiative, a bold new research effort to revolutionize how the United States improves health and treats disease.
Hortonworks has committed to providing its expertise in utilizing open data platforms and building open communities to researchers and research organizations, assisting them in using big data to address the challenges and opportunities of precision medicine.

As part of its commitment, Hortonworks will:
- Offer free support subscriptions for Hortonworks DataFlow, its data-in-motion platform, to 50 research organizations
- Provide online training to 100 research organizations over a two-year period
- Create a new online community called the "Precision Medicine Community" as a part of its Hortonworks Community Connection. The new community will soon be an online destination and technical resource for researchers that will include a repository to share code and ideas with technologists who create the platforms and tools
Hortonworks has also committed to hosting a Precision Medicine hackathon and meetup in 2016 and convening precision medicine collaborators at all of its key community events, including Hadoop Summit.
