Hospital Librarians In 14 States Work Together To Share Resources, Cut Costs
PRINCETON, N.J., April 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 120 medical librarians throughout the Mid-Atlantic and southeastern United States are busy ordering the most current medical databases, journals and books, to supply their hospitals and medical facilities with cutting-edge studies and information through fiscal year 2015-16 via a cost-saving, technology-sharing consortium organized by the non-profit Health Sciences Library Association of New Jersey's Group Licensing Initiative (HSLANJ GLI).
The consortium, in its 13th year, is offering more than 500 resources from 12 highly-regarded academic publishers, at a cost savings of 15-70% off regular pricing, through negotiations and the leveraging of group purchasing power.
"Originally a grassroots organization linking hospitals in New Jersey, we have steadily grown every year since 2002 to encompass hospitals in the Philadelphia market, then New York and beyond," explains Robert T. Mackes, executive director of HLSANJ. "Today we include participants from some of the nation's top hospitals and medical institutions including the Bon Secours Virginia Health System, Virginia; Emory St. Joseph's Hospital, Georgia; and Orlando Health, Florida."

Participation in the HSLANJ GLI is open to all hospitals and medical facilities in the NNLM's Middle-Atlantic and Southeastern Atlantic Regions—an area encompassing 14 states; Washington D.C.; Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands; and representing more than 26% of the nation's hospitals and medical facilities. April 24 is the deadline for participation in the current round of resources.
The HSLANJ GLI is endorsed by the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) as the lead organization capable of assisting health sciences librarians obtain resources.
