Host.net Ensures Security for Colo & vPDC Clients with Third Annual SAS 70 Type II Certification
BOCA RATON, Fla., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Host.net today announced that it has received its third consecutive annual SAS 70 Type II certification, providing security and operational assurances to its colocation and virtual private data center (vPDC) clients. The audit also confirmed that Host.net is prepared to transition to SSAE 16, a new global standard that will supersede SAS 70 next June.
SAS 70 Type II certification of a facility's infrastructure requires a comprehensive evaluation of physical security, environmental security, network monitoring, problem escalation and support. The fact that Host.net again passed the audit indicates that it provides a safe, secure, redundant and continually monitored environment with extensive controls to protect customers' servers and data for both colocation and virtual platforms.
The audit was completed by SAS 70 Solutions, the largest U.S.-based audit firm specializing in SAS 70 audit services. SAS 70 stands for the Statement on Auditing Standard (SAS) No. 70 issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) for use in assessing the internal controls of a service organization.
"SAS 70 Type II certification is becoming a key criterion for our clients. One of our vPDC customers estimated that it would have cost his company $250,000 to build an in-house data center with equivalent security," said Roger Barranco, CTO and VP of Operations for Host.net. "Given the mission-critical nature of the data we house, this certification is a cornerstone of our business, and we are already gearing up to migrate to the new SSAE 16 standard that will supersede SAS 70 next year."
SAS 70 certification also assists companies that must comply with Sarbanes-Oxley legislation related to internal data controls. The SAS 70 report addresses all five components of internal control outlined in the Sarbanes-Oxley legislation, including the control environment, risk assessment activities, control activities, information and communication systems, and monitoring activities.
