(NASDAQ:MU) announced that the company has achieved a definitive sponsor agreement with Elpida Memory, Inc. for Micron to acquire Elpida in exchange of $200 billion yen (equivalent to US$2.5 billion). Under the terms of the agreement, Micron will pay 60 billion yen in cash at the closing of the deal to acquire 100% of the equity of Elpida. Micron will pay the remaining 140 billion yen in future annual installments through 2019 from cash flow generated by Boise, the company's payment for foundry services provided by Elpida. Micron Technology, Inc. also signed an agreement with Powerchip Technology Corporation. Under the terms of the agreement, certain of Micron's affiliates will obtain the Powerchip group's 24% share of Rexchip Electronics Corporation in exchange of about 10 billion NTD (equivalent to US$334 million). By market close, Micron shares advanced 5.19% (or US$0.34) to US$6.89 on high volume of 46.40 million shares, compared to its average volume of 27.56 million shares.
