Housing Facility Features Affordable Services for Mentally Disabled
Singleton Housing Invites Community to Celebrate Open House
PHOENIX, Aug. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Singleton Housing invites the community to a special Open House Friday, August 24 from 10 am – 2pm and Saturday, August 25 from 10 am – 4 pm. The Open House will take place at the main site located at 6545 N. 19th Ave. (between Bethany Home Rd. and Glendale Ave.) in Phoenix.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet staff and program managers, view the newest housing facility, and find out about volunteer opportunities.
"The focus of Singleton Housing is to bring the least restrictive form of independency to those recovering from mental health and other disabilities," states founding director Elizabeth Singleton. "Our residents like the fact that they have their own apartment. They have a choice. We're doing what we can to get them back on their feet."
The 137-unit apartment complex offers individuals a supportive housing alternative to homelessness and unnecessary institutionalization. Community placement programs include services such as case management support, job training, social activities, and supportive care services.
Statewide budgets cuts for mental health and disability services persuaded Singleton to find a cost-effective solution that was independent of external funding.
"The budget for our programs and services are rent based," shares Singleton. "Most agencies throughout the Valley are not in the position to provide these services at an affordable rate, especially to those who suffer from mental illness. We had to find a way for people to still get the services that were taken away from them."
Details about Singleton Housing initiatives and associated nonprofit organizations and projects will be available at the Open House as well as staff on hand to share program details.
