Houston-Based Retired Army Colonel Honors Veterans With a Free Book Donated in Their Name

HOUSTON, May 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert H. Sholly, a retired army colonel, wants to honor and remember veterans this Memorial Day for their courage, determination, valor and sacrifice. To do so, Sholly, who served two tours in Vietnam—including one with the 1^st Battalion, 8^th Infantry Regiment, 4^th Infantry Division, one of the most highly decorated battalions of Vietnam—plans to donate a total of 50 copies of his award-winning, critically acclaimed book Young Soldiers Amazing Warriors to selected libraries across the country.

Anyone can request a book be donated in a veteran's name. To nominate a veteran, please go to www.youngsoldiersamazingwarriors.com/honor-a-vet/ and complete the form there.  Your nomination will be acknowledged by email.

Library donations will be arranged on a first-come, first-served basis. Each of the donated books will feature a bookplate bearing the name of the veteran being honored or memorialized. In addition, each person nominating a veteran will receive a frameable certificate acknowledging the donation in their veteran's name. A maximum of three books will be donated per city or state or one book per library until all books have been donated.

When the 50 free books have been donated, individuals may choose to purchase a book in a veteran's name for $25.94 including shipping and have it donated to their library of choice by purchasing a copy at www.youngsoldiersamazingwarriors.com and completing the form for the Honor a Veteran Program. Sholly will honor these requests by placing the free bookplate certificate in the book before donation and sending the purchaser a frameable certificate acknowledging their donation as was done for the free books.

Young Soldiers Amazing Warriors provides a firsthand account of a soldier's daily life in the combat zone during the Vietnam War. The book was the grand prize winner of the Great Southeast Book Festival, the winner of the military non-fiction award given by the National Indie Excellence Awards and earned the runner-up general non-fiction award from both the New York Book Festival and Great Southwest Book Festival.

In addition to two tours in Vietnam, Robert Sholly spent five years with the Defense Intelligence Agency; special assignments he worked on took him to the deserts of the Middle East, the mountains of Afghanistan and the jungles of Africa. He received a 1988 Noble Peace Prize as a member of the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces.
