HOUSTON, Aug. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Noted criminal defense attorney Stanley G. Schneider, acclaimed for winning landmark decisions and getting wrongful convictions overturned, has been selected Houston Lawyer of the Year in his practice area by The Best Lawyers in America. Separately, he also earned a Lifetime Achievement Award from Texas Lawyer newspaper.

Mr. Schneider, co-founder of Houston law firm Schneider & McKinney, P.C., has spent decades putting his exceptional legal skills to work for a fairer justice system, often representing defendants with few resources. This year, pointing to evidence of prosecutorial misconduct, he won a new trial for David Temple, a Katy high school coach convicted for the murder of his wife.

Since 2006, Mr. Schneider has been recognized for his criminal defense work in The Best Lawyers in America, the oldest and one of the most respected U.S. guides to lawyers. Its selections are based solely on peer review and editor evaluation. In the 2016 edition, Mr. Schneider received the special distinction of Houston Lawyer of the Year for his criminal defense work in the non-white-collar area.

In addition, Mr. Schneider's partner in the firm, Troy McKinney, was selected by Best Lawyers for the 11th consecutive year. Mr. McKinney is being recognized for his legal prowess in criminal defense non-white-collar representation as well as his DUI/DWI defense work. He also was Best Lawyers' 2014 Houston Lawyer of the Year for his criminal defense work in the non-white-collar area.

Recently, Texas Lawyer also listed Mr. Schneider among attorneys who have had "extraordinary careers," earning him one of its 2015 Professional Excellence Awards: Lifetime Achievers. "This list recognizes lawyers who have made their mark on the legal profession in the Lone Star State," the newspaper said.

And earlier this year, Mr. Schneider was honored by the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association, which awarded him its Richard "Racehorse" Haynes Lifetime Achievement award.

Both Mr. Schneider and Mr. McKinney are Board Certified in Criminal Law and Criminal Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and Mr. McKinney is Board Certified in DUI Defense by the National College of DUI Defense.
