Houston Trial Law Firm Farrar & Ball, LLP, Wins One of Nation's Top Verdicts for 2010

HOUSTON, March 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Houston trial law firm Farrar & Ball, LLP, is being recognized for winning one of the largest U.S. verdicts of 2010, based on nationwide data compiled by American Lawyer Media's Verdict Search, a leading guide to U.S. courtroom verdicts.

Farrar & Ball's $32.8 million verdict on behalf of victims in a fatal vehicle rollover crash is ranked as the largest Iowa verdict in 2010, and the 61st largest jury award in the country.

In March 2010, a jury in Polk County, Iowa, found that Findlay, Ohio-based Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. was responsible for the 2007 rollover crash of a Plymouth Grand Voyager van on Highway 65 between Des Moines and Marshalltown. Houston attorneys Kyle Farrar and Wesley Todd Ball served as lead counsel for six passengers and their families in the lawsuit, Ivon Toe, et al. v. Cooper Tire and Rubber Company, et al., No. CL-106914.

Jurors found that Cooper Tire defectively designed and manufactured the Cooper Lifeliner Classic II tire, and that the rollover was caused by a tire defect that allows part of the tire's steel belt to rust and weaken over time, causing tire tread separation. Jurors also heard evidence that, despite the availability of safer alternatives, executives with Cooper Tire repeatedly put off necessary design changes in order to save money.
