Houston White-Collar Defense Lawyer Philip Hilder Named to National ABA Post, Earns Texas Super Lawyers Listing
HOUSTON, Nov. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- White-collar defense lawyer and former federal prosecutor Philip Hilder of Houston's Hilder & Associates, P.C. has been appointed National Vice Chair of the White-Collar Crime Committee for the American Bar Association's Criminal Justice Section, in addition to earning a spot in the annual Texas Super Lawyers listing of the state's top attorneys.
Mr. Hilder has earned national recognition for his representation of corporate whistleblowers, including former Enron executive Sherron Watkins. He currently represents a whistleblower who worked for News America (a News Corp. subsidiary) and another who is involved in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal.
His recent selection to the 2011 Texas Super Lawyers list marks the ninth time Mr. Hilder has been selected by his peers as one of the top lawyers in Texas. He has earned selection to the list each year since it was first published in 2003. To compile the annual listing, researchers solicit nominations from more than 70,000 Texas attorneys, and fewer than 5 percent of all eligible lawyers earn the distinction each year.
Mr. Hilder, who has an AV preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, handles white-collar criminal defense and related litigation for individuals and businesses. A Boston College Law School graduate, he previously served as the attorney-in-charge of the U.S. Department of Justice Organized Crime Strike Force in Houston and as an Assistant United States Attorney.
He also has served as president of the Federal Bar Association in Houston in addition to work as a special counsel following a federal court appointment. His extensive efforts to uphold the integrity of the legal profession include service as a grievance panel member appointed by the State Bar of Texas and co-chair of the ABA National Institute on Securities Fraud. He also was appointed in 2011 to the Houston Independent Police Oversight Board of Directors by Mayor Annise Parker.
