How Chicago is Putting Data and Technology to Use.
Think data is only for statisticians? Learn how the City is reducing costs and driving growth with business intelligence and other tools.
CHICAGO, Oct. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Can data help reduce costs and drive growth? In Chicago, the answer is a resounding yes. At an Executives' Club Technology Conference on Wednesday, October 26th the City's technology team will explain how—through analytics, business intelligence, and crowdsourcing—they are working to make government more efficient and foster innovation.
At their first joint public appearance, Chief Technology Officer John Tolva, Chief Information Officer Jason DeHaan, and Chief Data Officer Brett Goldstein will talk about the projects that have made Chicago a resource to cities around the country.
One place to start is the role itself of Chief Data Officer, the first municipal position of its kind in the country. After co-founding Open Table, Brett Goldstein joined the Police force and created its first Predictive Analytics Group, which aims to predict when and where crime will happen. Expanding this model, the City has been able to allocate resources more effectively.
Tolva and DeHaan, whose careers include IBM and the founding of a high-tech startup, are integrating private sector collaboration through crowdsourcing.
"We are proud of having grown the utility of open data. Through technology, we are facilitating more interaction between the public and its government", said Tolva.
Michael Krauss—President of Market Strategy Group and a member of The Executives' Club's Technology Committee—will moderate the discussion.
"Executives' Club's programs focus on the business applications of technology. We will be talking about the role of technology in economic development and entrepreneurship", said Krauss.
The Executives' Club will also present its CIO of the Year award at the conference, given in partnership with The Association of Information Technology Professionals.
Accenture and Microsoft sponsor The Executives' Club's quarterly Technology conferences.
