SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- January 31, 2014 marks the start of the Chinese lunar year 4712 and the Year of the Horse. The 15-day New Year Festival is not only the most exciting and colorful holiday in the Chinese calendar, it's the tastiest. And thanks to Kikkoman, everything you need to make a fabulous Chinese New Year feast is no farther away than your local supermarket or pantry.
Soy sauce is integral to balancing and enhancing flavors in Chinese cooking. A versatile seasoning, Kikkoman Soy Sauce can be used as the primary flavor in meat marinades and stir-fry dishes. It can also be used in small quantities to enhance the other ingredients in broths, dipping sauces or dressings, something we like to call the "umami effect." Several foods served during Chinese New Year have symbolic meaning, each associated with specific blessings or good luck, such as:
- Rice – luck and wealth
- Noodles – long life
- Prawns – liveliness and happiness
- Lettuce – prosperity
- Pork – wealth
The more food you prepare and serve at your gathering, the greater the benefits to you and your guests! If Chinese New Year inspires you to cook Asian, remember, it's really simple to create fresh, wonderful dishes in your own kitchen. All you need to get started are some reliable recipes and a well-stocked pantry, complete with your go-to products from Kikkoman.
