Howard Tollin Joins Sterling & Sterling As President Of Environmental Division
WOODBURY, N.Y., June 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Sterling & Sterling, Inc. today announced that Howard Tollin has joined the private insurance brokerage as President of Sterling Environmental Services. In this newly-created position, he will report to Leslie Nylund, President, and be responsible for working closely with clients on evaluating and managing corporate environmental exposures not often covered by general liability and property insurance policies.
"We are very happy to welcome Howard to our team and have him leading a division that we feel has tremendous growth potential," said David Sterling, Chairman & CEO of Sterling & Sterling. "At a time when more and more companies are going green and trying to be more environmentally friendly, Howard brings with him more than 23 years of experience with insurance and environmental law, which will greatly benefit our firm."
Leslie Nylund, President of Sterling & Sterling commented, "Environmental exposures cut across all industries and companies. Howard's unique insurance and legal background, having worked on the most complex and sophisticated risks, will enable him to take a holistic view beyond just environmental exposures."
Prior to joining Sterling & Sterling, Tollin was Managing Director at Aon Risk Solutions, as well as Breitstone & Co. Ltd., which was acquired by Aon in 2006. He also served as a Partner in the Insurance Practice Group at Rivkin Radler, Long Island's largest law firm, where he supervised complex insurance coverage litigation and environmental claims. Tollin has worked on hundreds of property transactions involving contaminated brownfield properties, mergers and acquisitions, and construction projects. In 2012, he was awarded Environmental Power Broker and the Liberty Mutual Responsibility Leader by Risk & Insurance.
Tollin is the sole environmental section representative in the New York State Bar Association House of Delegates, where he represents the interests of the section's 1,200 attorneys. In addition, he is the Development Chair and on the Board of Directors for New Partners for Community Revitalization, a nonprofit organization that led the effort to create the landmark NYS Brownfield Opportunity Areas Program where $32.4 million was awarded to 110 communities to support brownfield site redevelopment. Tollin has continued to serve for more than a decade on the Advisory Board for the WISE Program at Stony Brook University, and he is the Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious 24 year old Environmental Claims Journal.
