HRH Crown Prince Alexander and HRH Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia will Attend the Royal Wedding
Crown Princess Katherine will have the People of Serbia Foremost in her Mind
NEW YORK, April 26, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- HRH Crown Prince Alexander and HRH Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia will be attending the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton this Friday.
The Royal couple has a deep connection to London and its people. Crown Prince Alexander is the godson of Queen Elizabeth. In addition, they met in this city and lived there in exile for many years when their country was in turmoil. During this time, Crown Princess Katherine provided humanitarian aid to all who were suffering in Serbia.
Their Royal Highnesses returned to Belgrade in 2001 after the democratic revolution. Shortly thereafter, the HRH Crown Princess Katherine Foundation was established. "We work for the benefit of all those in need, regardless of ethnicity or religion since we believe there are no borders in suffering," states Crown Princess Katherine.
In Serbia today, the new government is working vigorously to improve the lives of its citizens. Unfortunately, the country is having to address the fact that it has one of the highest rates of both breast cancer and infant mortality in all of Europe.
In addition, years of chaos and economic ruin have left tens of thousands of people--especially children, people with disabilities and refugees--suffering. There is still a strong need for basic medical supplies, food and other necessities.
Lifeline New York and Lifeline Humanitarian Organization/Chicago work with the HRH Crown Princess Katherine Foundation to achieve its goals. On May 13th, Lifeline New York is hosting a fundraising event in New York City for the Foundation (http://princesball2011.charityhappenings.org). It will be attended by HRH Crown Prince Alexander, HRH Crown Princess Katherine as well as Prince Peter, Prince Philip, Prince Alexander and Prince Dimitri.
Another goal of the event is to bring attention to the situation in Serbia. Cecily West, Executive Director of Lifeline New York, explains: "We cannot ignore the fact that the lives of Serbian people are still shattered after many years of upheaval, and there is a medical crisis. We must help relieve the suffering."
Lifeline Chicago has been very successful in providing state-of-the-art lifesaving medical equipment to Serbian hospitals and clinics, and has supported orphanages and refugee camps throughout the nation. Kathy Fanslow, President of Lifeline Chicago, says: "We are very fortunate to have an engaged Serbian community in Chicago and, as a result, have provided goods valued at $2,000,000 to-date."
