HTC Desire HD: Smartphone or Superphone?

WATFORD, England, September 20, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The Desire HD (http://www.mobiles.co.uk/htc-desire-hd.html) is an up and coming Android device from HTC which is looking to follow the success of the Desire; undoubtedly the best and most popular Android handset on sale in the UK and arguably the best Smartphone on the market today, second only to the iPhone 4 in some eyes.

The HTC Desire HD (http://www.mobiles.co.uk/htc-desire-hd.html) is essentially an Android touting answer to the Windows Mobile HTC (http://www.mobiles.co.uk/htc-mobile-phones.html) HD2, which was released November 2009, with the most noticeable similarity being its dimensions and large screen which dominates the front face of the handset.

The Desire HD will sport a larger 4.3 inch screen compared with the 3.7 inch found on the current Desire, although the HD still utilises the Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) screen technology and shares the same 480 x 800 pixel resolution found on the current Desire. The HD will also be released with the latest version of Android 2.2 Froyo and will also have a larger internal memory, sitting at 4GB although expandable by microSD with support for up to 32GB cards.

The camera has also received an upgrade moving from 5.0 megapixels to 8 megapixel camera phone (http://www.mobiles.co.uk/camera-phones.html), as well as gaining a Dual-LED flash and face detection technology which should make for better picture quality and clarity, especially in low light levels. Running Android 2.2 will also mean that the Desire HD, as the name suggests, will be capable of recording HD video at a 720p resolution; a feature praised by current Desire owners who have installed the Android 2.2 update.

The Desire HD's processing power is handled by the same Qualcomm SnapDragon 1GHz processor as that found in the current Desire and will ensure that the Desire HD will be more than capable of running multiple applications at once, no matter how large or small they maybe.

In terms of other specifications the Desire HD benefits from multi-touch inputs allowing pinch to zoom browsing, an accelerometer for rotating the screen orientation, a proximity sensor to disable the screen whilst in a call, an optical track pad, HTC's own Sense UI, a 3.5mm audio jack, HSDPA, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) , Bluetooth 2.1 and a-GPS. And, of course, the Desire HD will benefit from the Android Market; Google's answer to Apple's App Store.
