The Intercultural Human Rights Law Review Hosts Legal Experts at 6th Annual Symposium on Post-Earthquake Haiti Governance and Human Rights

MIAMI, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Thomas University's Intercultural Human Rights Law Review is proud to present its annual symposium entitled "Human Rights Aftershocks: Haiti" to be held on November 5, 2010. A thorough discussion on the human rights issues surrounding Haiti since the tragic January 2010 earthquake will be the focal point of this event. The conference will also shed light on Haiti's history of shortcomings in governance and its extreme poverty.

The sixth annual symposium is an all day event consisting of panel discussions featuring eminent legal scholars, attorneys, judges, and policy makers.  The panelists will engage in deliberations concerning intercultural human rights issues relating to Haitian governance, foreign assistance, internally displaced persons, and child trafficking and adoption following the earthquake. The symposium aims at exploring ways of developing effective solutions to problems that violate respect and dignity of every human being, and of charting new directions in the struggle for human rights, justice, and equality within this country.

This event is one more reflection of a decade of scholarly excellence delivered through the world-renowned LL.M./J.S.D. Program in Intercultural Human Rights at St. Thomas University' School of Law under the leadership of Professor Dr. Siegfried Wiessner and Professor Dr. Roza Pati. St. Thomas University has maintained a long-standing connection to Haiti through numerous sustainable development and human rights projects within the country, scholarly research and academic training conducted at St. Thomas University School of Law's Graduate Program in Intercultural Human Rights and the work of the Intercultural Human Rights Law Review as well as its caring and vibrant student leadership.
